Watch Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler B2B at CRSSD Festival!

What happens when you put two legendary DJ’s on a sunny San Diego festival stage together? Well ask yourselves folks- what happens when you light a stick of dynamite? What happens when you give Paris Hilton too much alcohol? What happens when it rains in Southern California? Explosions, sex, and a lot of dancing is what. And that’s pretty much what we got when Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler decided to throw down a back to back heater at the CRSSD Festival last weekend (which had one of the best American lineups we’ve seen so far this year). It’s like a celebrity death-match of electronic music icons, we just need Johnny Gomez and Nick Diamond to MC. On the left we have Jones- a UK-born, palm tree-loving House producer. On the right we have Troxler- an often naked, mustachioed menace with a permanent place in the history of Detroit Techno. Punches are thrown. Acid is dropped. Did we mention the transition into a beautiful California sunset? Watch it the whole thing below, courtesy of Mixmag >>>

Silky: Live In The Lab

Mixmag asked DJ Silky to stop by for a live set in their DJ Lab this week! When he’s not quietly tearing up the local London club scene, he’s hitting the studio with his companions at My Favorite Robot Records. His name might not be frequenting the Beatport charts, but between the Ray Ban aviators he never takes off and his classic approach to Deep House, he’s as much a rockstar DJ as any. Rather than pumping his fists or chatting it up with a stage full of girls, however, he’s got his head down and his mind in the mix…always. Silky is all flow and fluff ladies and gentlemen. You recognize that sound? Well it’s the underground!

REMEMBER THE LIVE

Just your friendly reminder to Never Forget The LIVE. Always remember what it means. Don’t stop asking questions, and don’t take laziness for an answer. There is too much potential at stake.

Starship Connection Debut On Boiler Room!

BT_SET_XSND_2_S1__312_high

Oh here we go. One of San Francisco’s best kept secrets is hitting the small screen- The Starship Connection have made their live Boiler Room debut, and the video was just posted on BRTV! California’s Bay Area has become a cultural hot-spot for all things funk and disco in the last decade or so. This duo, composed of Frite Nite Label founder B.Bravo and partner in crime Teeko, is a thriving paradigm for that community. Those roots are merely a launching pad for their music though. Starship is Bravo’s successful attempt at touching on his roots while expanding on them through a live music format, a format he felt that DJing inhibited. Armed to the teeth with synthesizers, MIDI’s, and bass (oh my!), his live electronic act is anything but predictable. Watch their diverse performance of disco, West Coast funk, and dub intertwined into an almost seamless set to see what we mean!

Side Projects Are Getting Old, Well Maybe Not This One…

Billy & The Kids have officially arrived! The newest side project from jamband land played a solid gig at the 26th Annual X-Mas Jam in Asheville, NC last Saturday. This “super-group” is lead by Bill “Billy” Kreutzmann of The Grateful Dead, and features members from Brother’s Past, The Disco Biscuits, and more. Now that lineup certainly looks explosive, but how does it sound? Is this new band going to sweep us off our feet, or are they going just going to remind us of what’s gone? We’re leaning toward the former but we’ll let you decide. Check out this video of them performing The Dead’s “Crazy Fingers -> Bertha” below and see how they stack up! Read the rest of this entry

Watch New “Lies” Music Video From Bottin!

The King of Italo Space Disco Bottin premiered the music video for his song “Lies” this week! Directed by Sara Tirelli and done entirely on 16mm film, the video was shot on location in beautiful Venice. Featuring some stunning views and of course the culturally intrinsic tunes of Bottin, the film stands as a true piece of art in our eyes. The finished product of everyone involved is quite amazing, especially with that extra nostalgic punch. Boogie. Plus visuals. Think no more. Watch the video for “Lies” below!
